Obama gains Edwards delegates

Barack Obama says he's picked up another 12 delegates, seven of them former supporters of John Edwards.

His new tally says he's gained seven delegates pledged to Edwards, 1 pledged delegate just not allocated from last week's North Carolina primary, and four super delegates.

He says that puts him within 17 of being able to claim a majority of the pledged delegates - those selected in caucuses and primaries. That's not enough to clinch the nomination, of course, but would clinch an important selling point to make to the remaining uncommitted super delegates.

He also says he's now within 121.5 delegates of clinching the nomination.
