Remember President Bush?
He and First Lady Laural Bush began election night with friends and senior staff members for dinner in the Old Family Dining Room of the White House. It was Laura Bush's birthday, and everyone shared coconut cake.
And, said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, the president gave his wife "a pair beautiful earrings to celebrate her day."
Perino added these details:
"The President gave a toast at the start of the dinner thanking those present for all the work they’ve done and for their friendship. He ended by saying, 'And may God bless whoever wins tonight.' The President, Mrs. Bush and some members of his senior staff will monitor election results tonight from the Residence.
"The President believes tonight is a night to appreciate the strength of our country and our democracy, as citizens from all over the country exercised their right to vote today, after a historic campaign. The President is committed to a transition that is as smooth as possible, a process that has been under way for many months, and as soon as we have a President-elect we’ll be able to do even more on that front."
I am an independent voter and a small busines owner. This is the first election I can remember crying over. Yes, I was concerned before, but the hanging Chad saved us. However, I feel that much more is at stake here. Not only do I feel that my business is in danger, but I am concerned about my future as a taxpayer. My husband and I have plans of semi retiring in a couple of years. I hope that will still be possible.
God Bless America! God be with our Troops!
