I was supposed to spend the Eid day with my kids, but then working as journalist imposed a commitment of working all the time even if its festivals and Eids. So I woke up early Eid morning around 6 am on my chief’s voice “its done, he is dead, Saddam is dead” it was like when you got the sign to start the race, I jumped out of my bed, run to the office after dressing I don’t know what! Terrible moments to describe, It was a mixture of feelings in my mind, should I feel sad? Get to work? Watch TV. And making phone calls following his execution? Or should I feel upset because I was supposed to be with my kids, its Eid for God’s sake! What am I doing here? Any way I followed his execution death and work so hard on collecting the right pieces of news, still having this conflicting feelings of the story was written and work was accomplished. Three major happy events, the new year, Eid, and Christmas, yet, I couldn’t feel happy, I just couldn’t and till now I feel sorry for not feeling so, I was waiting for such festivals and had many plans for them, it is true we got used to the idea that you think of something and leave it up to time, not feeling sure you are going to do what you plan for, but I haven’t thought, not for a second that I would wake up in the first day of Eid watching someone getting hanged! I wonder if that was that the government gift in those supposedly happy times, to hang a guy no matter how he was, and what he has committed to his life and to ours. Couldn’t you just postpone it for only few days till we can have moments of relax and joy, moments we have been missing since years. Have you ever started your Christmas and New Year with execution video before?
