I was reading an article about Iraqi orphanages and I shocked when I knew that the government has allocated only 2000 dinars (1.50 $) per a month for each orphan in these orphanage.
Can you imagine, with the explosive budget that reached to 71 billion dollars last year, the share of the orphan is 1.50 $ monthly? What a justice, that we live under this national government which promised to end the years of lack!
Islam, the official religion for Iraq state and customs emphasize the importance of caring the orphans and most Iraqi officials reach to authority by using Islamic cover to convince voters. Iraq the country of orphans (there are more than 3 millions orphans in Iraq ) only 469 orphans of them distribute on 15 orphanage are living under the care of the state. Iraq government ordered to close all private orphanages for vague reasons. This issue reminded me of the displaced issue when the government decided to close one of displaced camp just to say we are not have displacement problem any more. And again they behave like the ostrich that hide its head under ground when she faces difficulties.
I hope at least our government will think of those who lost their families and live under its care especially I you knew that the salaries of Iraqi officials reached to 40000$ per a month.

I just hope that the great leaders of all times who made decisions at the first instances find remedies to provide for the gap they left behind. Being an orphanage in a war-torn country is just like in hell as I can imagine and I just hope and pray that those who create the mess will take care of these poor orphans

the US should be paying for those orphans. it was their invasion that made the war.

I am disgusted at the continued corruption that occurs in your country. Our soldiers died to improve your living. This is unacceptable and is spitting on every soldier who served in Iraq. I am so sorry for you and your countrymen. Shame on the evil devils who continue to defy decency. What anger I feel toward the corruption of leaders in Iraq and the lack of publicity for your plight.

So $1.50 a month for orphans and over $40,000.00 a month for already rich officials. Well now Iraq has a Dick Cheney - GW Bush democracy. All the gold goes to their chosen few.

This is terrible news, Jenan. I hope you and your colleagues will write more about the conditions in these orphanages. How can the children possibly thrive on such a small amount of money? Thanks for all you do.
