Meet your "Typical Israeli"
Israel's postal service held an on-line contest to choose the design of a "Typical Israeli" for the country's official stamp to honor its 60 years as a country.
And what did the voters choose as the official stamp to commemorate their 60 years of struggling to fulfill the Jewish people's hopes and dreams?
What image did Israelis pick as the "Typical Israeli?"
Um, OK.
The lead of The Jerusalem Post story about the contest read simply: A design of the "typical Israeli" by artist Eli Kameli of Tel Aviv has been chosen by thousands of Internet users to become a 60th anniversary of independence stamp, even though most Israelis do not look like it. (Emphasis mine...)
"My design," said Kameli, "is an integration of security, youth, peace, soccer fans and hi-tech."
OK... So this image is how Israelis view themselves - and how Israelis want the rest of the world to see them?
Did anyone check to make sure some red-headed computer nerd from Tel Aviv didn't hack into the on-line voting and rig the results?

I'd be interested to know what the other choices were?

Is there a web link to other designs, Dion?

This is to become a stamp??
Was the creator some high up persons relative? I too would love to know what the other choices were, but then this choice shows what has become of Israel: It is a totally americanized country, down to it's future new stamp! What a pity.
