This story caught my attention because I have been to Vallegrande twice. I first went there in 1987 as a young free-lancer. I spent a couple of days there and then rode a horse to La Higuera, where Che was killed 20 years earlier. I wrote a story on this for the Washington Post. I can't find a version of this story through a quick Google search.
In 2006, I returned to Vallegrande for a quick trip. I wrote a story for the Miami Herald about the government's efforts to lure tourists to Vallegrande with Che as the hook. Those efforts were just getting underway.
I noticed that the photo caption for the story I've linked says Che died in September 1967. It was actually October.
